Operating economics
How Much Does a Robot Cost to Run?
Running cost is more than charging a battery. Maintenance, software, insurance, downtime and human supervision can dominate electricity costs.
Electricity
Operating hours × average power draw (kW) × electricity price per kWh.
Maintenance and software
Recurring service contracts, wear parts, repairs and licences.
Human supervision
Time spent overseeing, resetting or completing work the robot cannot do.
Cost per productive hour must account for uptime. A cheap-to-charge robot with poor reliability may be expensive per useful task.
